Diploma in Marine Engineering 

If you are a Diploma Engineering and want to join merchant navy marine engineer than you have come to right place.

For Diploma Engineer who have completed their diploma in either Mechanical, Electrical or Electrical and Electronics Streams, Institute of Maritime Studies Goa provides training to be a Marine Engineer Officer. After completion of this course a DME student joins ship as Trainee Engineer. A Diploma Engineer becomes at par with a Degree Engineer in the Maritime Field. We have an excellent two year pre sea training course in marine engineering for diploma engineers.

Career Scope

On completion of training diploma entry candidates are permitted to join ships immediately. They can answer their MEO Class IV Part A exams either before or after joining their first Vessel. After completion of 6 months sea experience they appear for MEO Class IV Part B.

Trainee Engineer rises to become a Chief Engineer normally in 7 to 8 years, subject to passing further examinations conducted by Mercantile Marine Department, Government of India. 

Salaries

The Salaries of Junior Engineer vary from company to company. However, approximate starting salary is ₹25000/- per month for Indian companies and US $500-1100 in foreign companies. A chief Engineer draws a salary of over ₹700000/- to 1000000/- per month.

a. Passed Diploma in Mechanical / Naval Architecture / Electrical / Electrical and Electronic Engineering with minimum 50% in final year.
b. The candidates must have secured minimum 50% marks in English in 10th or 12th standard exams or Diploma exam.
c. A relaxation of 5% marks in English shall be granted to the candidates who are native of the Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar inlands and belong to Scheduled Tribes and who and both of whose parents were born in those islands and belong to the Scheduled Tribes of those islands.

OR

a. Passed Diploma in Ship building Engineering with minimum 50% in final year.

Eye Sight
6/6 or 6/12 in each eye or 6/18 in one eye and 6/9 in other eye without glasses WITH NO COLOUR BLINDNESS by Ishihara chart. Partial Colour Blindness is also not acceptable.

Aspiring Candidates can Apply online if he is fulfils above Eligibility Criteria.

  • Candidate need to Pay Application processing fee online by clicking “Online Payment Link” under Admission Tab.
  • After payment candidate is required to fill the Google form by clicking the link “Apply’ under Admission Tab.
  • Fill the form correctly as data Entered in the form will be used for Generating admit card, sending correspondence and Institute will not be responsible for any wrong entries.
  • On receipt of online applications, payment of Rs. 3000/-( non-refundable) and soft copy of passport size colour photograph in JPEG format (maximum 120×160 pixels) and file size less than 20 KB uploaded on the application form, the eligible candidate will be sent an Admit card on registered email Id only.
  • Candidate should take a colour print out of the Admit card and should follow all Instructions on the Admit card.
  • The list of Candidates shortlisted for interview, along with an interview schedule will be displayed on www.imsgoa.org. The interviews will be held at the Institute, on the dates mentioned in the Admission Schedule. (Note: No separate notification shall be sent to candidates)
  • Candidates Shortlisted will undergo Psychometric Test as per Admission Schedule.
  • Shortlisted candidates will have to Download and fill up candidate application form.
  • Candidate Application form, Original Certificates and one set of self-attested photocopies of certificates to be brought to Institute for Verification at time of interview. (List of certificates to attach is in the candidate application form).
  • Names of the candidates selected in the interviews and also those placed in waitlist will be informed at the Institute as per the admission Schedule.
  • The selected and waitlisted candidates will have to pay Admission Processing Fee of Rs. 7,000/- and Medical Fee of Rs. 4,500/- (Total Rs. 11,500/-).
  • The Admission fee of Rs. 7,000/- will be returned to waitlist Candidate not called for selection and/or fails in Medicals. The medical fee of Rs. 4,500/- will not be refunded after undergoing a medical test.

Syllabus for Online Test:

Entrance Exam is of 1 hour Duration.

Section B: Basic Engineering Knowledge (60 Marks); Material and Workshop (10 Marks); Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (5 Marks); Diesel Engines (10 Marks); Electricity and Automation (10 Marks); Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics (10 marks); Thermal Engineering (10 Marks); Mechanics (5 Marks)

What is the duration of the course?

The Diploma course is of 2 year duration.

When does the course begin?

The course begin on 1st December every year.

What baggage/personal belongings should I bring when I join the course?

The course fee includes, boarding & lodging, uniforms, uniform shoes, helmets, boiler suits, safety shoes. Bedding is provided by us.

What is the course fee?

Current year course fee is displayed in the Admission Instructions.

Is there any relaxation of fees for SC and ST?

No.

I am a local resident of Goa and so can come daily to college and go back. Is hostel stay compulsory for me?

Hostel is compulsory for everybody, even locals, as we have to train you to stay away from family.

1.Degree Entry(GME) Selected List For Interview is Declared. 

2. All the aspiring candidates should have valid PASSPORT at the time of appearing for selection interview scheduled around Aug/Sept.

3. All the aspiring candidates are suggested to get themselves tested for COLOUR BLINDNESS. Candidates with Colour Blindness will not be eligible for admission.
